What happened
On September 10, 2025, a male student opened fire at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, Colorado, wounding two classmates. Deputies were on scene within minutes; no officers fired their weapons. Investigators say there were “multiple scenes” inside and outside the school.
Victims’ conditions
Both injured students were taken to St. Anthony Hospital. Officials said the victims were initially listed in critical condition; by evening, one had been upgraded to non-life-threatening while the other remained in critical condition.
The suspected shooter
Authorities identified the suspect as a student at Evergreen High School. He died hours later from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeffco Public Schools canceled classes at several campuses on Thursday as investigators processed the scene and provided support services to students and families.
